Overview
In May 2018, Volkswagen South Africa sought to create a unique, high-tech experience for its annual Grand Prix Awards Ceremony at The Galleria in Johannesburg. Working with One-eyed Jack, the goal was to craft a memorable and magical event for VW dealers.
Objectives and Strategy
The core objective was to “make magic happen,” inspired by the famous magician Dynamo. The strategy focused on incorporating advanced technical innovation and engaging entertainment. The teams were responsible for all aspects of the event, including:
- Concept development and creative roll-out
- Venue management, décor, and catering
- Staffing, guest speakers, and entertainment
- Car displays, staging, AV, sound, and lighting
- Logistics
Results
The event successfully brought a sense of wonder and high-tech flair to the awards ceremony.
- A “magical” car reveal was executed, creating a stunning visual moment for attendees.
- Entertainment was a major highlight, featuring comedians Nik Rabinowitz and Lalla Hirayama as emcees, with performances by Shoowop Shop and Swing City. Mentalist Gilan Gork provided a unique perspective as a guest speaker.
- High-tech elements were integrated throughout the venue. Geo Mapping was used on every table, and the event hall was surrounded by 270° screens displaying dynamic graphics and video.
